Doctrine

The ancient statement of faith known as the Apostles Creed is a helpful summary of what we believe to be essential doctrine. At FBCY we seek to accurately portray the character of God, who is revealed as a Trinity who is infinitely winsome, generous beyond measure, and known for his love, mercy, kindness, and generosity. Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God and invites us to know God as Father and to recognize the power of the Holy Spirit working in our world.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to death.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Mission

WORSHIPPING – EQUIPPING – SHARING

A.W. Tozer said that the most important thing about a person is what comes into their mind when they think about God. Here at FBCY, we aim to have a growing conception of the true nature of God, and are eager to draw close to God based on his love, generosity, wisdom, power, and presence. God invites us to be with him, to know him, and to reflect his character. We are eager at FBCY to know and worship God.

We believe that God created humans in his own image so that we would reflect that image: to look and act like God. That endeavor is a lifelong journey, and as we journey together we need the support of one another in community as the Holy Spirit works in us to produce true Christlikeness. We are eager at FBCY to equip one another for God’s calling on our lives.

We aim to imitate the generous love of God by sharing the hope of Christ with our community. We want to exhibit authentic Christlike character in our action, words, and attitude, doing good in Yarmouth and the surrounding areas, and being a place of welcome and inclusion for our community. We are eager at FBCY to share God’s gift of life with others.

Values

The Bible has been given to us by God to know and follow Him as our source of life and hope. Therefore, it guides us in all we do.

We are a people of Prayer because Jesus modeled an intimate relationship with the Father through prayer, and it is through prayer that we see God at work in and around us.

All People have value because they are created in the image of God. We desire to be a community where all people experience their worth through our compassion, hospitality, and love.

Worship is our response to the worthiness of God. Through worship we individually or collectively encounter God as we give gratitude for all He is and does.

Outreach is an overflow of God’s own heart to our neighbors and across the globe. We generously give of ourselves and our resources so that others may be able to know and follow Jesus.

*We believe God is gregarious and welcoming, and we aim to imitate him in this regard. We are open to all people regardless of where you are on your journey of faith. We’re excited to hear your story!
